What is Chicory?
Chicory is a summer perennial and often confused as dandelion because of the basal rosette. However, as it grows, the leaves and flowers are the opposite of dandelions. It can grow as tall as 3 feet and produces bright blue to purple flowers. The stems emit milky liquid when cut, and the weed can produce up to 3,000 seeds from June to September, making it hard to control.
How to Get Rid of Chicory Weeds
Chicory grows in thin and disturbed areas in lawns and can sometimes be found in newly planted turf grass. Proper mowing and overall routine lawn maintenance can reduce the number of weeds in the lawn. During the rosette stage, use a postemergent herbicide containing triclopyr to knock down this weed and to keep it from taking over the landscape.
