What is Southern Crabgrass?

Southern crabgrass is a warm-season annual weed and is unique in that it grows laterally along the ground, so it's easy to identify it among other grassy weeds. The leaf blades are quite rough and have no hairs; however, a few short hairs may be found near the base of the blades. It reproduces by seed and prefers open and disturbed areas.

How to Get Rid of Southern Crabgrass

This grassy weed germinates when soil temperatures reach 55 degrees F and remain there. It can also overwinter and produce new growth in the spring or early summer. Herbicides with dithiopyr provide excellent pre- and postemergent control in liquid and granular variations.
