What is Wild Violet?

Wild violet appears a lot like a pansy but smaller in size. It has five bluish-violet flowers but may also grow with white or lilac flowers. It has heart-shaped leaves that cup toward the petiole, forming a funnel shape. This weed grows in bunches and reaches a height of 2 to 5 inches; it's also found in cool, moist soil with plenty of shade.

How to Kill Wild Violet

Wild violet is very resistant to herbicides and can quickly spread once it establishes itself in the turf. It's important to apply a postemergent herbicide to wild violet as soon as it reaches the two-leaf stage. Using an herbicide with triclopyr in two- or three-way combinations is an effective way to kill and control this weed.
