How Gentrol IGR Concentrate Works
Gentrol IGR Concentrate Insecticide doesn't provide contact or residual kills like insecticides such as Cynoff EC Insecticide. This insecticide and others like it contain synthetic pyrethroids that provide quick knockdown. However, even the best insecticide might not affect every single pest in the target area. An IGR affects the survivors and inhibits their life cycle. It targets the adults and prevents the survivors from being able to reproduce. It also affects the larvae and keeps them from reaching the pupal stage. Gentrol IGR Concentrate will not kill roaches. You should never use Gentrol to try to eliminate a roach population by itself.
The active ingredient in Gentrol IGR Concentrate is hydroprene, the same ingredient in similar Gentrol products. Once it's applied to the target area, the chemical ingredient releases into the air and reaches deep into cracks, crevices and voids to target the labeled insects. Though it won't eliminate an insect infestation, it will ensure a complete reduction of the total population.
Where to Use Gentrol IGR Concentrate
Gentrol IGR Concentrate is labeled for indoor use only. It should not be applied outdoors as it could harm beneficial insects. Apply it as a spray in voids and crevices where insect pests hide, nest and breed. Apply 1 ounce of IGR to a gallon of water, and use the solution as a spray or a fog with the correct application equipment. It can be applied in most any interior space, including food-handling areas like restaurants. It has a low toxicity and poses little risk to people and animals in the treated area. Some common places for use include:
- Apartments
- Bed and breakfasts
- Boiler rooms
- Closets
- Homes
- Hospitals
- Locker rooms
- Offices
- Schools
- Trucks and other transport vehicles
- Warehouses
Target Pests
Gentrol IGR provides long-term pest control for various insects such as roaches. In fact, the active ingredient hydroprene is used often in similar growth regulators to combat German and American cockroaches. It not only treats several roach species but also other resistant pests such as bedbugs. Bedbugs also produce numerous times in adulthood and will quickly infest an interior space. They'll also hitchhike to other locations and infest new areas, so it's important to treat bedbugs quickly before their populations rise.
This effective growth regulator stops adult bedbugs from reproducing and prevents the larvae from maturing. However, it should not be used alone to treat bedbugs or any other listed pest. Although it will reduce future populations, it will not kill the pests or provide any other immediate control.
Gentrol is labeled for the effective control of roaches and bedbugs but also affects other indoor pests. It prevents fruit flies and drain flies from reproducing and continuing to be nuisances inside living and working areas. It also affects a variety of stored product pests such as:
- Confused flour beetles
- Rice weevils
- Cigarette beetles
- Indian meal moths
- Saw-toothed grain beetles
- Rice moths

Prevent Infestations With Gentrol IGR Concentrate
Insecticides work great for eliminating pest infestations, but they don't always affect every pest in the vicinity. For those that survive, Gentrol IGR Concentrate is the ideal solution. It targets the adult insects and inhibits their reproduction systems, preventing them from reproducing and creating more young. It also affects the larvae and kills them as they're unable to mature into the pupal stage. This IGR works on a variety of insect pests, from bedbugs to roaches. It can be sprayed as a spot application or used to treat an entire living space with fogging equipment, making it a perfect companion to adulticides in an integrated pest management program.
